FUPI is a wonderful organization in the Las Vegas area. I have personally worked with them on portrait fundraisers in the past. The fact that they have re-homed over 5000 animals is a great accomplishment. Animal rescue always takes enormous amounts of volunteer time and is rewarding but can also be a lot of work. If you are thinking of adding to your family, please consider going to rescue, and FUPI always has animals to pick from. You can read a bit about FUPI below and what they do for the community.
Foreclosed Upon Pets, Inc. (FUPI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue of domesticated animals that have been abused and/or abandoned by their owners as a result of economic hardship, including home foreclosure, loss of employment, insufficient income, or death and illness. FUPI will work to further the cause of animal control through the education of the general public about the humane benefits of spay and neuter programs. FUPI will take on a leadership role in developing strategies and creating coalitions with other animal rescue organizations in order to better serve the residential and commercial sectors of the community in the fight against animal cruelty.
FUPI was founded in 2008, at the top of the housing crisis in Las Vegas. People were walking away from their homes, leaving everything, including their pets, behind. Since that time, FUPI has re-homed over 5000 animals, not only from foreclosures, but military deployments, illness or death of family members, and people just falling on hard times. We also work with an organization in Canada to transfer small dogs from our local shelter to some Canadian provinces where they have a shortage of small dogs.
